We expect all students to attend College every day unless they are ill. If your child is unable to come to
College for health reasons, it is essential that you telephone the College
immediately and provide written confirmation of the illness when he or she
returns.
It is a
commonly held, but mistaken, belief that parents can take children out of
College for family holidays during the term. This is not the case and there is
no entitlement to holiday in term time.
At Kings International College authorisation for family holidays in
term time may occasionally be given in
very exceptional circumstances, but this must be applied for, in advance, by
writing to the Principal. Each case is examined on its merits and, in particular
the previous attendance record of a student and the reason for absence. Where a
student has already had more than a couple of days of authorised absence,
authorisation is unlikely and if the holiday goes ahead it will be recorded as
unauthorised.
No applications for absence during periods of internal or external
examination will be approved and in certain circumstances, statutory penalty
notices can be issued if such an absence goes ahead.
It is also important to be clear of the expectation that if holiday
is taken in term time (whether authorised or not) your child will be expected to
catch up on any missed work, in their own time.
If necessary, the College may ask the student to remain after College on
their return, in order to complete any outstanding work.
