In KS3 & KS4 regular collective acts of worship are held for each separate year group which usually include a reading or short talk with a moral or religious theme. Assemblies also include information on forthcoming or past events.
All students at KS3 follow a religious education programme which includes some study of the major world faiths. In year 9 the religious education programme is incorporated as part of a GCSE Humanities qualification undertaken by all students. At KS4 students either follow a GCSE short course in Religious Education or select a full course as one of their options.
Parents have a right to withdraw their children from religious education and assembly. Parents wishing to withdraw their child are required to do so in writing at the commencement of their education at Kings. Written requests should be addressed to the Principal.
Students withdrawn from assemblies will be located in the Learning Resources Centre while their Tutor Group attends assembly. In religious studies students who are withdrawn are expected to complete work brought from their home relating to their family’s particular religious or moral point of view.
